Week 35, 2017

Hey folks! We've rolled through another week, and just because the summer's coming to a close and the children are returning to school doesn't mean the music's slowing down anytime soon (Although this week was on the lighter side :P). Some awesome bands from both here and Mountain time stopped by Joe's to scarf down some food and rock out the pizza basement - so without further delay let's cut to the action!

8/30/17 - Danielle Ate The Sandwich // Heather Mae

Wednesday was a great 1-2 punch of singer-songwriters that kicked off with DC's own Heather Mae, a pianist and ukulele player (ukelelist?) who performed a wonderful set of heartfelt songs about self-worth, love, and perseverance to the delight of the sit down crowd. Following Ms. Mae was Colorado uke legend Danielle Ate The Sandwich, who closed out the show with some soulful originals, classic covers, and hilariously fun sing-a-longs. The duo was even gracious enough to perform a few duets throughout the show which were a big hit with the audience. Following the show, the crowd joined together for a boisterous rendition of 4 Non Blondes's classic hit "What's Up" thanks to yours truly, and the night ended with a few more drinks than anticipated :P

8/31/17 - The Rebel Set // The Stents

Stents return! It's been a minute since our friendly neighborhood garage-rockers have graced the pizza basement with their presence, and as always I was glad to have them back. They brought with them The Rebel set from Phoenix, who kicked it off with some short-riffed, bass thumping, guitar powered bootie shakers, and The Stents closed it out the only way they really know how - by attacking the crowd with guitars, locking into synchronized dance moves, firing off a multitude of lasers and pyro, and ultimately melting into a puddle of amplifiers and feedback. Definitely catch them this Saturday at Hampdenfest along with the rest of the amazing lineup of bands playing the Hidden Volume Stage!

That does it for now. Spent the weekend recording guitars for Vorrh and biking around the city with friends. I'm still trying to get my podcast out there, think I might just have to bite the bullet and front the domain space myself...we'll see. See ya next time!
