Week 32, 2017

Holy shit what a week! There's not too much to say up front other than I've been making some changes lately and have been feeling pretty great! I've been writing more, playing more guitar, and made some real progress recording my band Vorrh's first album. On top of that I got to check out some pretty awesome bands and hang with some awesome folks, so let's cut to the action!

8/8/17 - Wipeout // Big Bliss // Big Quiet // The Not

Tuesday brought the 1-2 punch of Brooklyn rockers Big Bliss and Big Quiet down to the pizza basement to deliver some excellent guitar-jangled indie rock. They were joined by the locals The Not who opened the show with a solo performance of gothy electro-pop, and duo Wipeout who made their return Downsquares to end the show with their special brand of sludge-pop.

8/9/17 - Sweet Knives // Teen Mortgage  // Honey Whitlock

Sweet Knives from Memphis reunites the surviving members of the legendary Lost Sounds, and it was amazing to have them stop through Joe's for a show! Their self-titled debut just came out earlier this month - definitely give it a listen! Also playing was riot-girl squad Honey Whitlock, who played their best show in the pizza basement yet, and stoner surf duo Teen Mortgage who rocked out a loud and fuzzy set of originals.

8/13/17 - Them Animals // FuzzQueen // Tigerer

Sunday was a quick 3 band lineup of localish bands that kicked off with a loud set by Baltimore's favorite blues-rockers Them Animals. DC's FuzzQueen made a return performance for an excellent set of stonery alternative tunes that definitely left an impression on me, super solid stuff! Lastly, the indie-pop stylings of Tigerer ended the night and sent the modest crowd home happy.

All right that does it, gotta get ready for a run. Tune in next week for another riveting edition of this blog. Until then peace out!
