Week 28, 2017

Sup y'all! Another week of music stuff for ya, here's what I saw this week.

7/14/17 - BSO New Music Festival: Free Chamber Jam

Friday was a free show put on with the help of the BSO as part of their New Music Festival. A series of short performances both traditional and experimental performed by a variety of excellent players. Things kicked off with a piece by Mind on Fire, and ended with an open jam by the Pique Collective which invited everyone to join in and become a part of the show. By the way the place was PACKED! I don't think I've ever seen Joe's that crowded, and I don't think the fire marshall ever wants to see Joe's that crowded. Regardless it was an awesome and I hope to see more shows like this in the future.

7/15/17 - Captain Morris // Slow Chasm // Shining Mirrors // Saddle O. Centaur

Saturday was an all-local lineup that kicked off with the always awesome Captain Morris who performed his last set in Baltimore for the foreseeable future since he's moving. Not surprisingly it was excellent, and I'm going to miss seeing him pop down to the pizza basement for shows. Slow Chasm played next with a set of harmony filled alt-rock, followed by MD/ NY trio Shining Mirrors who played some incredible minimal indie pop-rock. The night closed out with power-duo Saddle O. Centaur, who brought the low-clearance house down with their special brand of guitar-powered punk anthems and some of the funniest banter I've heard in a while. Ah yeah! Another killer Saturday night for that ass.

  1. John, thanks for the kind words but Willamette Stone actually covered us. That song was written by Shining Mirrors. - Drew Robinson
