Week 12, 2017

Hey gang! As the weather considers getting warmer, shows have started picking up around North Ave. This week kicked off with a show I booked at The Crown, and ends with the fire department being called for too much smoke machine - some really killer bands throwing it down along the way. So without further delay, here’s the rundown from another awesome week of music.

3/22/17 - The Ward // Vorrh // Dwellingville //GrassRoots

I’ve been in and out of bands for years, but playing in my new project Vorrh is my first opportunity to really try and book my own gigs. I was able to secure a date at The Crown and found a killer lineup to help us out. After grabbing a bento box downstairs the show kicked off with The Ward and their diabolical series of fuzz soaked riffs and interesting sample work. It was Vorrh's turn to take the stage, performing our set of ambient doom numbers to a decent reception. I’d like to thank my songwriting partner Zinoosh Farbod for helping to bring these songs together, her lyrical voice has been an amazing contribution, and I’m excited to hopefully get some recordings done in the very near future! (We’ll be playing again May 10th @ The Depot w/ The Meer & Defenders.!) Following our gloomy space dirges was Dwellingville who brought the crowd in with their seamless set of psychetronica, and late addition GrassRoots closed out the night with some fuzzy stoner rock.

3/23/17 - Maxine // Post Pink // Aye Nako // Purrer

Thursday’s show was packed! My pictures for this one suck because I literally couldn’t get closer it was so crowded. Maxine started the show with some reverb-soaked dream pop before making way for Post Pink and their set of angry punk-screamers. Brooklyn’s Aye Nako performed an AMAZING set of what they self-describe as “non-college rock”, and Baltimore’s purrer closed it out with some awesome mid-tempo melodic sludge. More Thursdays like this please!

3/24/17 - 12 Gauge Sunrise // Joy On Fire // The Expanding Man

Friday started with 12 Gauge Sunrise and their set of punk meets classic rock. Joy On Fire opened things up with a really fantastic set of sax-fronted freak-jazz. It’s kinda hard to describe, but it felt a bit like Moon Hooch meets Dinosaur Jr., and I highly recommend checking it out! Lastly was solo project The Expanding Man, whose set of groovy electro-improv was a nice way to close the show.

3/25/17 - Lushfarm // Seance // Preston Boxing Club

Saturday’s lineup was fantastic. Lushfarm opened it up with some jagged alt-rockers, followed by the melancholy Seance and their smoke-heavy post-metal. Halfway through their set the smoke alarm went off in the whole building and the fire department showed up, pausing the show for a few minutes while they scoped things out. Once the coast was clear, Preston Boxing Club was able to close the show with their brand of loud and tight indie-rock, and the fans were sent home happy - full of pizza and good tunes.

That does it! Tune in next week for more guitar/ drum/ singy stuff…until then!
