Week 1, 2017

Hello and Happy New Year! The digit on your calendars may have changed, but some things stay the same as I’m back once again to give a brief rundown of some of this past week’s events on North Avenue. This week was all about the rock & roll as every band unapologetically smashed their way through the pizza basement to bring us nonstop guitar-based carnage. so without further adieu, here’s what went down.

The Stents // The GTVs // Jake Starr & The Delicious Fullness

What can I say about the Stents that hasn’t been said already? They’re loud, fast, explosively violent, and have a propensity for song and dance. It’s always a treat whenever The Stents stop by, and they always bring excellent crew to rock out with them. Following The Stents was Philly’s The GTVs who provided a hammond powered set of pure nuggets-infused goodness, perfectly accompanying the aromas of cheese & risotto permeating from our underground pizza place. Lastly we were joined by Jake Starr & The Delicious Fullness who closed the show with some high energy movers and shakers, leaving the audience with an unwavering sense of joy - like a child high on Mountain Dew and Chuck E. Cheese on his birthday. Romping, stomping, shouts & stouts, The Stents & friends have done it again!

The Combs // Sea Lilies // The Nuclears

Saturday fuzzy power punks The Combs returned to to host this week’s second round of garage rock in the pizza basement. The show opened up with local trio Sea Lilies and their Ian MacKaye powered alternative post-punk, followed by The Combs who once again blitzed through their set like like some sort of jangly pink lightning bolt. Finally we wrapped up with The Nuclears whose trashy party cow-punk was the evening’s highlight - like if REO Speedwagon was from Alabama, smoked meth, and listened to Motörhead. It was amazing!

Alright gang, that does it for me. Yada yada...be back next week… blargety blarg… more music… ooo eee ooo ah ah… until then!
