Week 51, 2016

Buenos dias er’body! This week the Christmas Spirit kicked things into high gear and smothered us with it’s unrelenting peace and good will towards man, so there wasn’t too much going on in the cheese hole to report back to ya. Still, here’s a brief rundown of this week’s events as we begin gearing up for 2017, check it out!

12/21/16 - OKAY Recordings Comedy Night

Thursday night Joe’s hosted it's second comedy showcase presented by OKAY Recordings. This month was hosted by Michael Furr and featured the hilarious talents of local comedians Matt Brown, Ian Salyers, Samantha Kelly, Leeland Clayton, and Bunny Themelis. Most of the talent would be competing the following night at Magooby’s Joke House in Timonium for the 2016 New Comedian of The Year competition, and Joe’s offered a good spot for them to warm up and work out some material. Ian Saylers ended up winning the competition and the $1000 cash prize, so congrats to Ian - I’m definitely looking forward to the next comedy night Downsquares!

12/23/16 - Lip // Nag // Weapon Man // Cold Feet

Christmas Eve Eve offered a lineup of loud and proud punk rock in the pizza basement to prime everyone for the holidays. My part of working a punk show is that it’s pretty low commitment, usually you just have to turn them up and set them loose. Locals Lip started the show with a quick set of thrashers followed by NOLA's Weapon Man for a solo performance of looped and tracked quality madness. Atlanta’s Nag were also on hand to deliver their unique brand of dissonant guitar work before closing things out out with the quick fury of local cats Cold Feet. With that we wrapped up this week’s shows in prep for the weekend’s Christmas festivities. Feliz navidad y’all!

Alrighty then, that does it for me. Thanks again for checking this out and I’ll be back next week to cover the last shows of 2016 as well as a year end review and wrap up. Later!
