Week 50, 2016

Ahoy ahoy! Coming off of a pretty awful cold, I’ve been fighting the good fight to stay hydrated and ahead of the terrible coughing death that’s haunted me the last two weeks. Still, here I am to report back what I’m able to remember from the smells and sounds of Baltimore. This week was packed with fantastic local talent and features some of my favorite musicians from around the area. So without any further babble or introductory nonsense, here’s what went down.

11/15/16 - The Linemen

Thursday Downsquares was host to DC’s The Linemen who rocked the pizza basement with two sets of original modern country complete with lush vocal harmonies and white-hot guitar solo action. An excellent band reminiscent of The Eagles pre-Hotel California.

11/16/16 - Back To The Bible // Preston Boxing Club // Kavoossi & The Typos

Friday kicked off the weekend properwise with a lineup of local rockers and pizza enthusiasts. Back To The Bible started it off with an impressive return performance of crunchy pop tunes before making way for the debut performance of Preston Boxing Club and their loud set of thoughtfully arranged indie rock. Kavoossi & The Typos returned to Joe’s to close the night out with their unique brand of power pop and some of the best music the Annapolis area has to offer. The drinks continued well into the early morning putting a nightcap on another successful Friday Downsquares.

Back To The Bible

11/17/16 - Jacob Panic Trio // Gingerwolf // Skribe

Three of the area’s best songwriters converged on Joe’s for an evening of… well songs of course. Jacob Panic and Skribe had both just celebrated the release of their new albums the night before at 49 West in Annapolis, and made their way to Baltimore Saturday night for an encore presentation. Jacob Panic, joined by Dan Cohan and Joe Magar led the charge with a tight set showcaseing Mr. Panic’s song-craft and the trio’s sharp arrangements. Joining the lightning pickin’ lineup was local legend Gingerwolf, who played a short solo set to the delight of the pro-pizza crowd before accompanying Skribe on the noodles and twangs for a set of rompin' country stompers. Definitely had a blast hanging for this one!

Alright y’all that’s it for now. I’ll be back next week with more music from the bowels of North Avenue. Peace out and Merry Christmas!
