Week 38, 2016

Ahoy! Music from all over the country and globe honored our city with their presence for another week of diverse and nifty sounds. Nifty I say! Let’s have a look see.

9/20/16 - Box Set

Kicked the week off early with San Francisco’s Box Set. In all honesty, it wasn’t that crowded, but these guys still put on an incredible show! The band was so good it made me feel like Baltimore was making a mistake by not being there. Seriously well crafted Americana complete with some incredible Eagles-esque harmonies. If these guys ever make their way back around I highly recommend going to see them!

9/21/16 - Honeytomb // Unwelcome Guests // Solitary Set

Wednesday was packed with some loud n’ proud indie rock n’ roll. Local’s Solitary Set kicked it off with a solitary set of lush rockers before very welcome guests, Buffalo's Unwelcome Guests, hit the stage for a set of angular riff-rockers accentuated by the very strong tenor vocal of guitarist Micah Winship. Baltimore’s Honeytomb then wrapped it up with some decent 90’s influenced alt-tunes.

9/23/16 - Gorilla // The Stents // The Jeanies // The Get Smart

Garage Rock!!! Stents!!! Japan!!! Friday was indeed quite the party! As previously mentioned a few weeks ago, anytime The Stents are around is a good time, and once again they brought some awesome friends with them! We opened up with the new Idle Gossip, Baltimore’s own The Get Smart, with some excellent mod-rockers pushed forward by the Lee Ving-reminiscent vocals of frontman Brian Gilbert. As we moved further into the evening the crowd packed in as New York’s The Jeanies took the stage for a set of awesome pop-heavy garage tunes. Following the NY jams was our heroes The Stents, who once again annihilated the audience and paved way for our overseas friends, Japan’s Gorilla. Fantastic American Nuggets-inspired rock n’ roll that was as much an homage to American style as it was a demonstration of Japanese showmanship. It was truly a fantastic night of guitar-worship that I was happy to be a part of!

9/24/16 - Hucklebuck // Old Man Kelly

Hey Old Man Kelly, where’d you go? I had a Joe’s first on Saturday as we had our first no call/ no show performer. I hope he’s ok... I mean it was Saturday and we offer pizza to our guests, who passes up that opportunity without an explanation!? Either way, we kept it rolling with country bar-rockers Hucklebuck before calling it an early night Downsquares.

Th-Th-Th-Th-Th-... That's all, folks. As long as the amps keep cranking I’ll be back with more coverage next week. Hasta la vista hombres!
