Week 29, 2016

Ahoy my dear friends! We’ve hit the dog daze of Summer and it’s show after show after show, so I’ll be covering a TON of awesome music over the next few weeks. There’s plenty to get into, so let’s get to it! *fires starting pistol*

Wednesday 7/20/16 - Bootleggers & Baptists // Old Eastern // The Out of Water Experience

Wednesday gave us some hard rockin’ blues with the bands Bootleggers & Baptists and Old Eastern, who alongside the heavy riffs and lyrical stylings of Femi the Drifish & The Out of Water Experience we had a great night of good music and good friends!

Thursday 7/21/16 - Monkey King // The Shrapnels // Anamoe Drive

Jazz fell upon Joe Squared like a meticulously crafted odd-time melody Thursday night. Gave me memories of seeing Medeski, Martin, & Wood DVDs at my old guitar teacher’s house; plicky plciky organs and me wondering when the guitars are going to show up. In all seriousness though everyone was a fantastic player, and all the bands were tight. Cheers!

Friday 7/22/16 - Scratchin’ Soul Sessions

Friday was a night of Hip-Hop, Soul, and Artwork featuring MCs Black Disciple, King Who, J Powell, and Docta Toonz. Big shoutout to the self proclaimed “Chris Jericho of Hip Hop" DJ Wish Martin for holding it down with the beats for everyone throughout the night.

Saturday 7/23/16 - Danny Whitecotton // Mink’s Miracle Medicine

Things slowed down Saturday with some acoustic folk with Danny Whitecotton and the awesome folk-blues duo Mink’s Miracle Medicine. Super nice people with beautiful and genuine songs. I walked away a new fan with a new t-shirt, thanks guys!

Sunday 7/24/16

Headed to Philly with some friends to see Sean K. Preston & The Loaded Pistols throw down the tunes for Rockabilly Sunday @ the V. Man do these guys put on a show! After warming up with a few old-school standards, the band cranked it up and started turning out song after song of fret-burning rockers and ballads that gave people no choice but to get on their feet and dance. There wasn’t much of a dance floor to work with, but that didn’t keep the crowd from swinging and spinning to the Baltimore Cowboy’s energetic guitar work and Marty Robbins' high notes. With a couple killer surf numbers thrown in, plenty of on stage antics, and a shout out to Black Sabbath, the night was nothing short of a good ol’ fashioned Hootenanny! Can’t wait to catch these guys again!

That’s it for me this week. Once again I’ll catch you on the flip, so until then!
